White House press secretary Sarah Sanders released a statement Friday afternoon, in which she said the book is "riddled with lies and false accusations". "What's equally disappointing to me is not only did Chuck Todd give Omarosa a platform, but he failed to challenge her in the most basic ways".

Her book has come under intense scrutiny with many calling it a tome of falsehoods and uncorroborated gossip. "He goes on to say that things can get ugly for you", Manigault told host Chuck Todd.

Meanwhile, the GOP's official Twitter account blasted her.

Pressed on why she had not heard the tape before publishing her book, the author claimed its owner is "so afraid because of the forces working to stop it coming out" while also regretting that "people are probably trying to leverage it for an October surprise" ahead of the November midterm elections.

Today, in response to her casting the president as a racist and mentally waning, he called her "a low-life".

"Who in their right mind thinks it's appropriate to secretly record the White House chief of staff in the Situation Room?" tweeted Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee. She was one of the highest paid employees on the White House staff, given a salary of nearly $180,000 a year. "And now she writes a book and all of a sudden she's like an oracle".

The memoir is about her tenure in President Donald Trump's administration.

In her book, Ms Manigault Newman paints a damning picture of Mr Trump, including claiming without evidence that tapes exist of him using the N-word as he filmed The Apprentice.

The White House shot back, stating that Manigault-Newman's termination for alleged ethical violations was handled properly.

"I am so glad that I did because now we can put to bed all those false rumors", she added.

She also alleges that Trump has exhibited signs of a "mental decline that could not be denied" and says she went as far as printing out a study linking Diet Coke consumption to dementia and strokes and putting it in his briefing stack.

"Hearing it changed everything for me", she told NPR reporter Rachel Martin. According to a published report by the media organization, when asked to clear up the discrepancy, the former White House aide said Martin must not have read the book. Then, officials attacked Wolff's reputation, claimed specific people had been misquoted and sent aides and surrogates on shows to trash the book.

The White House Situation Room is one of the most secure locations on the planet.

But in the battle of credibility between a scorned staffer and an administration that routinely lies, few winners emerge.
