Jose Mourinho hailed a "monster" performance from Paul Pogba after the World Cup victor answered Manchester United's call and helped deliver victory against Leicester.

- Leicester City (@LCFC) August 10, 2018There has been a general buzz in the footballing world as fans eagerly awaited the start of the new season following the hugely successful World Cup.

The Belgium worldwide is also keen on playing for the Red Devils but the two clubs are not close in their valuation of the player and United have not submitted a formal offer to Spurs.

But Claude Puel's side was unable to maintain that level in the second half, and Juan Mata should have scored for United after good work from Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

Jamie Vardy's sniper's effort set up a tense finale but, after a frustrating summer, Mourinho was at least able to celebrate three points.

"The team played as a team", Mourinho said.

"But it's good that they feel that we are all together, the same team as last season, and we can all fight for big things and show to everyone that we have a very good squad and very good team, and the players can still improve".

Both players did not start in their match against Newcastle United where they won 2-1.

Neville went on to criticise the United board for failing to back Mourinho and sign a defender he so wished for.

That led to a pointed tip of the hat towards Leicester's summer business - which ended up exceeding that of the Red Devils.

"I came back on Monday so it was very hard for the legs and the stamina but we played very well". "It doesn't matter who you are playing in the Premier League, they are tough", said Moyes.

"Forget the name, the history, the shirt, every match is hard".

"I had my plans for many months and I find myself in the beginning of the Premier League, with the market closed, I find myself in a situation which I did not think I was going to be in."
'I think he deserves respect and people to be very happy about him.

"You can't sort of fall back and think "I'm changing my mind" - you've gone too far".

"I wonder if Jose's words the other day, "Let's wait until the end of November", I would be very surprised if United weren't top of the league come the end of November".
