Red Bull team boss Christian Horner controversially responds to Fernando Alonso rumours

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner believes Daniel Ricciardo's decision to switch to Renault next year was partly influenced by the growing strength of current teammate Max Verstappen.

F1 pundits have singled out Pierre Gasly as the man most likely to replace Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull Racing.

"I've got huge respect for Fernando, he's a great, fantastic driver, but it would be very hard to see", Horner told the Beyond the Grid podcast. "He feels Renault are in the ascendancy".

Renault are now fourth in the Constructors' Championship, and Horner continued: "Daniel said he decided after a long flight to America that he had decided he wanted a change". You look at the rational reasons for that, it's hard to understand, but Daniel obviously had his reasons.

Did Ricciardo almost join McLaren? Also, when Ricciardo had announced his departure from Red Bull, Horner was completely blindsided.

He added: "The competition between him and Max is intense". Max is growing stronger and stronger. I think it comes back to wanting to take on, his words, "a new challenge".

"Daniel had his reasons".

"I think we'll look at everything".

'The film business passed away today': Hollywood slams Oscars 'popular film' addition
The Academy took to Twitter to share the exciting news on August 8, which has sparked some controversy on social media. Actor Rob Lowe tweeted that "The film business passed away today with the announcement of the "popular" film Oscar .

"It's not that they were treated in any way different".

"They would have equal status, as they have always had", he insists. "I can't help but feel that was perhaps a large part of Daniel's decision making". I could understand if it was to Ferrari or Mercedes, but it's an enormous risk at this stage of his career. "But it's an enormous risk at his stage in his career".

"It's been a bit like trying to convince a girl to go out with you, but she's being pretty reticent", he said.

"Both of those guys [Sainz and Gasly] are very quick drivers so I think this just gives us an opportunity to take a breath". "We bent over backwards to make it happen". We were even prepared to do a one-year agreement so he was available to Ferrari or Mercedes should they come knocking in 12 months' time.

"So, it wasn't about money, it wasn't about status, or commitment, or duration". "If someone's heart is not really in it..."

"Maybe it's an inspired choice".

"At the end of the day, we have given Daniel everything that he ever wanted and it still wasn't enough in his mind to say "I want to keep going at Red Bull".

'Daniel said he decided after a long flight to America that he decided he wanted a change, now you look at the rational reason for that and it's hard to understand. Is this a wind-up for the summer holidays?' But it then became very clear that was his choice and you have to respect that.
