In Second RFA Attempt, Kings Preparing Offer Sheet for Marcus Smart

Talking to teams like the Kings and the Nets could get the Celtics' attention.

Smart's options in free agency have been incredibly limited.

The Kings signed Bulls restricted free agent Zach LaVine to a four-year, $80 million offer sheet last week.

As a result, Smart has been left out in the cold to an extent.

However, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the Celtics are simply waiting for a team to make an offer to Smart so that they can match it, lending credence to the fear opposing teams have that they can't have Smart for themselves no matter what they do.

But so far, the teams involved haven't had a ton of cap space to work with.

This would be the Kings' second attempt to sign an RFA to an offer sheet, a relatively rare move in the National Basketball Association.

Per A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports, Boston Celtics restricted free agent Marcus Smart is likely to sign his qualifying offer - worth $6.1 million - and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Of course, the alternative possibility is that the Kings' ineptitude could display itself in the team making an outsize offer for Marcus Smart, based on the idea that they can turn him into a completely different player. But for now, the Celtics seem happy to sit back and wait for a team to make them uncomfortable before they commit to a lucrative Smart deal.
