The latest is this weekend's release of Ant-Man and the Wasp, the 20th installment in the MCU, which debuted with an estimated $76 million over the three-day weekend, out-performing 2015's Ant-Man by almost $20 million. Still, not every second MCU entry manages to out-do its first movie, with 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.2 million) falling short of 2012's The Avengers ($207.4 million), which held the record for the highest debut in box office history for three years, before it was dethroned by 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($247.9 million). The MCU sequel debuted with $20.9 million in South Korea, a 78% leap from the original that almost eclipsed the $21.2 million the original earned in its entire theatrical run there. Other top territories were Russian Federation ($4.9 million), Australia ($4.7 million), and Taiwan ($4.6 million). The blockbusters earned US$29 million and US$28.6 million respectively this weekend. France quickly ranks as the sixth largest market for Incredibles 2 behind China ($48.7m), Mexico ($33.8m), Australia ($24.6m), Brazil ($15.4m) and Russian Federation ($14.3m). The film has so far grossed $772.7 million globally and will debut in South Korea on July 19 and still has yet to open in Japan, Spain, Italy and Germany. The Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin-led sequel picked up another $7.6 million, taking the domestic tally to $35 million. Upcoming key markets include a July 20 release in Mexico, August 2 release in Russian Federation and a late, December 6 release in Brazil.
