The Congress on Sunday released the name of its candidate for the upcoming biennial election to the Legislative Council of Bihar to be elected by the Members of the Legislative Council.

Mishra, a familiar face on TV news channels, thanked party's president Rahul Gandhi for his nomination.

The opposition Congress - part of the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led Grand Alliance along with Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) - also announced the name of Prem Chandra Mishra.

"I am thankful to Congress president Rahul Gandhi ji for reposing faith in me by declaring my name for council polls", Mishra told PTI.

Besides them, Moshin Raja, the lone minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, are included in the list, the party said in a statement. "I would continue to work hard for the party", he added.

Last week, the Election Commission had declared dates for biennial election to 11 seats of the Bihar Legislative Council falling vacant on May 6. The BSP's Dr Bhimrao Amedkar, who had lost to the BJP's ninth candidate during Rajya Sabha polls last month, has already filed nomination after the Samajwadi Party left one seat from its quota for the BSP to compensate Dr Amedkar's Rajya Sabha defeat.

Prominent among those whose terms will end in May include Chief Minister and JD (U) national president Nitish Kumar, former CM Rabri Devi, Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and state health minister Mangal Pandey.

Asked about the background of the party's two new faces - Mahto and Anwar - Singh said both were "dedicated party workers".

Four RJD candidates - former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi, state president Ramchandra Purbe, senior leaders Khurshid Mohsin and Santosh Manjhi - filed their papers on April 13.
