Tribal girl abducted repeatedly raped for over 2 weeks in Surat

As the country struggles to come to terms with the brutality of gangrape and murder of 8-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathu, another horrific incident has emerged from Surat in Gujarat, the Prime Minister's home state, where a 9-year-old girl's body has been found with 86 injuries, including some on her private parts, reports news agency ANI.

Mumbai: Amid nationwide outrage against Kathua, Unnao and rape cases in other parts of the country, the post mortem report of the 10-year-old girl whose dead body was found recently said she was raped, kept captive and tortured before being strangled to death. Nine days after her body was recovered from Pandesara, near Surat, on April 6, the police remain clueless about her identity. The police has announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for anyone who provided clue about the girl.

In the Kathua case, the police charge sheet says the girl from the Bakarwal nomadic tribe was kidnapped, held in a temple in Kathua's Rasana village, drugged, repeatedly raped and then murdered to scare her community out of the neighbourhood.

The forensic head of the Civil Hospital in Surat said after a five-hour long post-mortem that most of the injuries were caused by a wooden weapon. He said that the body bore 86 injury marks. "We have taken a DNA sample for identification".
