Russia's Military Says It Will Respond If US Strikes Syria

"At the same time, Russian military advisors, members of the Russian Reconciliation Center for the Conflicting Sides and military policemen are staying in the Syrian Defense Ministry's facilities in Damascus".

"In the case that the lives of our servicemen are under threat, the Russian military will undertake retaliatory measures against both the missiles and missile launchers", Gerasimov was cited as saying.

Russian MoD says it has information that militants in Syria are planning to stage chemical attacks against civilians under the guise of the Syrian government.

According to Gerasimov, the militants have brought a crowd of civilians, including women and children, into Eastern Ghouta from other regions to represent the as the victims of the planned chemical attack, while film and satellite video transmitters are already in place.

The warning came a day after US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said Washington was ready to unilaterally "act" against Syria, just as it did previous year when it bombed a Syrian government air base over allegations of a chemical weapons attack.

The Russian general proposed the USA meant to "furnish the so-called "evidence" of the alleged mass civilian deaths through the fault of the Syrian government and the Russian leadership supporting it". In retaliation, Washington, according to Gerasimov, "plans to launch a missile strike on the government-held districts of Damascus".

On Monday, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley warned that Washington will take action in Syria on its own if the UN Security Council fails to do so.

The US diplomat once again claimed that Russian Federation and Damascus continue to bomb "innocent civilians" under a pretext of fighting terrorism. However, Russia's envoy to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia dismissed the allegations, saying that Western countries use the situation in Eastern Ghouta only as a pretext to put pressure on Russia and blindly put the blame on Damascus for any incidents in the country.

"They [militants] are constantly striking humanitarian corridors and checkpoints, including during the humanitarian pauses", Nebenzia stated.

Earlier in the day, Syrian state TV showed a group of civilians, including sick and injured people leaving militant-held areas in Eastern Ghouta into government territory on Tuesday.
