Reps lift suspension on Abdulmumin Jibrin

Embattled former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation Abdulmumin Jibrin has finally been recalled to resume legislative sitting after staying away for more than one hundred and eighty legislative days.

It was learnt that the lawmakers suspension was lifted following a letter he personally signed allegedly apologising to the House.

Despite Jibrin's effort to restrain the House from preventing him from performing his legislative duties, he was suspended for a period of 180 legislative days.

El 28 de febrero se había resuelto declarar la misma medida para Tacuarembó, Salto, Durazno y zonas de Artigas, Paysandú, Río Negro y Rivera.

His suspension followed a motion recommended by House Ethics Committee chairman, Nicholas Ossai, and adopted by the whole House.

But speaking at plenary on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, Speaker Dogara said Jibrin had written an apology letter to the House. "He knew that the allegations were false and scandalous and he had no regards at all to whether the allegations were true or false", he said.

"My resolve to champion this cause was borne out of patriotism and desire to complement the present administration's anti-corruption war from the legislative front,".
