Insider preview builds are the primary way in which we get new information about upcoming releases, and the consolidated changelog listed below gives us an idea of some of the initial fixes and tweaks that Microsoft has up their sleeves for the consumer release of Windows 10 Redstone 5. This caused a lot of opposition from the users who wanted to stay with their older versions of Windows and they eventually blocked getting Windows 10 updates.

In addition to the above, Microsoft has also updated the Windows Defender System Guard. In a companion blog post, Microsoft noted that it will continue to block security updates on PCs running antivirus drivers that are known to have compatibility issues.

"This happened to me last night", said a user sharing his experience on the AskWoody tech support website.

"Microsoft is aware that this notification was incorrectly delivered to some Windows 10 Version 1703 devices that had a user-defined feature update deferral period configured".

Microsoft admitted its blunder.

We now don't have a solid release date for Windows 10 Redstone 5 outside of a "fall" window, but development is no doubt underway. The changelog was just released for Windows 10 Redstone 5, giving us insight into what exactly we can expect from this upcoming release. What version of Windows are you now using?

Users who were affected by this issue and who upgraded to Windows 10 Version 1709 can revert to an earlier version within 10 days of the upgrade.

Microsoft says it plans to continue issuing software and microcode updates as they become available, which means that IT managers will need to continually monitor their vulnerability to these attacks for months or even years to come. To do this, open Settings Update & Security Recovery, and then select Get started under Go back to the previous version of windows 10.

As we draw ever closer to the release of Microsoft's next major version of Windows 10, the info dumps only grow more frequent and more specific.

Users who mistakenly received this update can downgrade if they want to. It happened before in November 2017 and January 2018 when Patch Tuesday security updates accidentally upgraded some users.
