Volkswagen reaches settlement deal for three.0L diesel automobiles in Canada

The agreement was reached by Volkswagen and Canadian class counsel in consultation with the Commissioner of Competition.

After one of the biggest automotive scandals in the country, Volkswagen has agreed to a settlement.

If approved by a court, the proposed nationwide settlement covers roughly 15,000 owners and lessees of model year 2013-2016 Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche 3.0L diesel vehicles recalled for emissions fix.

Payments will also be sent to owners and lesses of affected model year 2009-2012 vehicles who will also be offered options including buyback, trade-in, early lease termination or a possible recall fix to reduce emissions.

Almost 20,000 Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche owners will be eligible for cash payments if the settlement goes through.

The German automaker admitted in 2015 to installing software on diesel-engine vehicles in order to trick emissions testing equipment into thinking the vehicles were using less emissions.

The emissions scandal cause a plummet in Volkswagen stock, and its then CEO, Martin Winterkorn, stepped aside shortly after it came to light.
