A hiker found McAllister's remains a year later, police said. He and two others have since been arrested in connection with the crime. Then someone walked into a television news station Tuesday and confessed.

After the interview was over, the TV station informed Redding's chief of police and the Shasta County Sheriff's Office that Hawkins was on his way to confess to a crime.

Hawkins expressed remore while talking to KRCR.

The station did not air his on-camera interview until he surrendered to police.

After Hawkins confession, Redding Police Department on Wednesday arrested Curtis and Shanna after interrogating them.

Hawkins said he hopes the community can forgive him.

A California man says his faith in God led him to confess to the 1993 murder of a young man.

"He refused to answer any questions about the case itself but said he wanted people to know that he had found God, and that is what led him to finally do the right thing and confess. I know the wrong can't be changed but this is the closest I can come to doing the right thing".

Hawkins and Curtis Culver were charged Friday with murder and robbery.

All three individuals now reside in the Shasta County jail-on charges of murder, robbery and burglary. They are being held without bail.

McAlister was first reported missing in May of 1993 after police found his vehicle abandoned at a Costco parking lot.

"Every minute of every day has been a nightmare", Hawkins said.

Hawkins told them that he, Curtis Culver, 45, and Culver's sister, Shanna Culver, 41, murdered McAlister after luring him to Shingletown to steal money he had received in a settlement.

According to investigators, one of the Culver siblings confessed to their part in the crime, though they declined to say which one.

He said that a year ago he reached out to McCalister's family.

Hawkins said that there wasn't a moment in his life since that time that he hasn't been remorseful. Before he made it, however, McAlister's dad died, he said. Police say they left his body in the woods and abandoned the vehicle in a Costco parking lot.

After appearing on camera for a tearful interview, Hawkins met with Redding police and gave a statement.

Hawkins claimed Curtis Culver, who was 21, stabbed McAlister inside the auto, and that Hawkins later stabbed McAlister outside the vehicle, the complaint says.

He said he and his siblings, 46-year-old Shanna Culver and 45-year-old Curtis Culver, robbed McAlister to get money for methamphetamines and then killed him.

During his TV interview Tuesday, Hawkins, wearing a long-sleeve T-shirt and camouflage trousers and clasping a can of cola, declined to give details about the killing.

"I've been through hell my whole life because of this", he said through tears.
