The deal was reportedly close to happening earlier in the week before talks stalled.

It took weeks of negotiations to complete, but the Astros acquired right-hander Gerrit Cole in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Pirates or Astros have yet to officially announce the trade, and there were reports of a trade for Cole that surfaced Wednesday, which turned out to be false. Also headed to the Pirates are a pair of minor leaguers - pitcher Michael Feliz and outfielder Jason Martin.

The Astros, the reigning World Series champions, will add Cole to an already stacked rotation that features Dallas Keuchel, Justin Verlander, Charlie Morton, Lance McCullers and Collin McHugh. The former No. 1 overall pick is 59-42 with a 3.50 ERA during his career.

The right-hander has two more seasons before qualifying for free agency.

Volkswagen reaches settlement deal for three.0L diesel automobiles in Canada
The agreement was reached by Volkswagen and Canadian class counsel in consultation with the Commissioner of Competition. Almost 20,000 Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche owners will be eligible for cash payments if the settlement goes through.

Cole, a product of UCLA, was the top pick from the 2011 draft by the Pirates.

Cole, 27, made 127 starts over parts of five seasons with the Pirates.

However, what should be beneficial is Cole won't have all the pressure following him from Pittsburgh to Houston. With the Pirates, Cole had to be the ace and almost ideal every game to have a chance to get his team the win. It won't be surprising to see them finally pull the trigger on an Andrew McCutchen trade which has been rumored for the better part of the last two years.

The Yankees had expressed interest in Cole, who finished fourth in the 2015 National League Cy Young Award voting but struggled last season with a 4.26 ERA in 33 starts.
