Alongside Reynolds in the first non-cartoon Pokémon adventure will be Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton from Big Little Lies, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Instead of adapting that specific Pokémon game into a film, Legendary is instead putting the focus on the franchise's most popular character: Pikachu. But what do Detective Pikachu and Deadpool have in common?

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story, and the report went on to explain that Detective Pikachu is no ordinary Pikachu. He'll bring his talents to this film that's helmed by director Rob Letterman, who's no stranger to family animated comedies, with his resume that includes Monsters vs. Aliens and Shark Tale.

IGN reports Reynolds had been one of several names reportedly being considered for the role alongside Hugh Jackman, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Pikachu is a species of Pokemon, while Detective Pikachu the character is a peculiar sort from the Pikachu set, a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things. Newton is said to play the role of a journalist. The current draft of the script is written by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman.
