One dead, two injured in horror workplace accident in Sydney

A man has died after becoming trapped in an oil tank at an ink factory in Sydney's west.

A rescue operation was launched at an Auburn work site about 8.45am on Thursday following reports three men had been injured.

New South Wales Fire and Rescue said the men, believed to be aged in their 30s or 40s, were "trapped by compression" at the DIC Australia on Chisholm Road in Auburn.

New South Ambulance superintendent Paul Turner said the worker had been trapped by his legs, describing the area as "a very hard scene".

"The last person deteriorated on the scene ... multiple ambulance resources [were] inside with the man trying to save his life", Superintendent Turner said.

"The third patient is now deceased".

New South Wales Ambulance Superintendent Paul Turner said that because of the circumstances a rescue attempt was incredibly hard.

'This is a awful tragedy, ' Mr Turner said later in a statement.

Two colleagues of the man, believed to have both been aged in their 20s, were rescued from DIC Australia factory on Chisolm Road, in Auburn, western Sydney.

Following a complex operation, two men were able to be extricated and have since been rushed to Westmead hospital with leg injuries.

"One of the men has just been released and sent to Westmead with similar injuries and again is in a stable condition", he said. "This is a confined space and the difficulty has been getting to them as quickly as possible".
