Thursday in CE: Oreo Go May Redefine Smartphones Forever, Commence the iPhone Rumors

The two upcoming OLED models will be similar to the current iPhone X and will sport the same True Depth camera system, according to Nomura. These sources spoke with Nikkei and the information does fit in well with some things that KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated previously.

The most interesting development, though, centres on the LCD-packing iPhone X model.

The two sport a big difference in screen, as the iPhone X got a huge upgrade into OLED, which offers flawless blacks and more vivid colors, as well as higher resolution 2436 x 1125. iPhone 8 still uses the old IPS LCD display.

A report out of Nikkei and spotted by 9to5Mac claims Apple may revert back to a metal back for one of its iPhones next year instead of opting for glass. While Kuo believes that a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is in the cards, he anticipates that the larger iPhone X model with an OLED display will feature a 6.5-inch display, not a 6.3-inch display. The publication found that the X's durability lags behind the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus' longevity.

According to sources claiming to be "privy to the company's product designs" the 2018 iPhone models will include two OLED models with a 6.2 or 6.3-inch screen.

It looks like the rumors surrounding Apple's 2018 iPhone plans are already beginning to swirl.

NIkkei's report does not mention the design of the phones' front panel.

Apple could also opt to go with a new supplier for the LCD model. While the third device would be a more budget-friendly option and will trade the OLED display for a 6.1-inch liquid-crystal display. All three handsets will come with Apple's TrueDepth camera for Face ID.

The low-end LCD device out of the three will be assembled by Pegatron and possibly Wistron. It would be a shocker if the tech giant confirmed or denied any of the rumored specs or features of the 2018 lineup at this point.

The iPhone X performed about the same as two other flagship phones, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, Consumer Reports said.
