PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has extended the service of General Rey Leonardo Guerrero as chief-of-staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) until April 24, 2018, Malacañang said on Thursday, December 7.

"This is to announce that the Executive Secretary, by authority of the President, has signed yesterday, December 6, the extension of the service of Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo Guerrero", Roque said in a statement.

Guerrero, who is a graduate of Philippine Military Academy Class of 1984 replaced Philippine Army General Eduardo Año, who has reached the mandatory retirement age of 56 and is set to retire before December 2017.

Guerrero, then commander of the Davao-based Eastern Mindanao Command, took the helm of the 130,000-strong Armed Forces on October 26. His appointment was only approved by the Commission on Appointments on Wednesday.
