10-year-old unlocks his mum's iPhone with Face ID

In fact just recently the folks at WIRED have stumbled across the video above which shows a 10-year successfully unlocking the iPhone X belonging to his mom using Face ID.

This is what a new video shows that features Sana Sherwani and her kid Ammar Malik.

According to Apple, the probability of a random person unlocking an iPhone X with Face ID is approximately 1 in 1,000,000, compared to 1 in 50,000 for Touch ID.

Face ID might be the Apple iPhone X's new secure facial recognition feature, replacing the Touch ID, but it doesn't look like the risk has paid off.

In the video, the mother explains that despite setting up Face ID for her face, her son is able to unlock the phone using his face.

Attuallah Malik and Sana Sherwani discovered this when their fifth-grade son Ammar Malik simply picked up his mother's new iPhone X without her permission and shocked her by unlocking the device with his first glance.

Accern ranks coverage of public companies on a scale of negative one to one, with scores closest to one being the most favorable. Following the completion of the sale, the director now directly owns 1,421 shares of the company's stock, valued at $173,035.17.

With Face ID, Apple has launched a grand experiment in a form of biometric security previously untested at this scale.

After the mother reregistered her face under different lighting, her son was no longer able to unlock her phone. He was even able to unlock his father's iPhone X, but only at one time, but later his was unable to do it. A lot of Identical Twin's once did it, it worked for some and Not for others.

While cases like this one might not be that common, it seems family members with similar facial structure could circumvent the privacy of their loved ones by fooling the Face ID tech. Testing it on his father's iPhone X saw him only get in once and failed subsequent times, with the father penning an article on LinkedIn with regards to the situation.

Vietnamese cybersecurity firm Bkav, claims it's been able to bypass the iPhone X's Face ID feature using a mask.

The frame of the face was created with 3D printing, with the nose being produced by a third-party artist and moulded in silicone. It was also necessary to get a digital scan of the iPhone's owner as well as detailed measurements of their face. For additional protection, Face ID allows only five unsuccessful match attempts before a passcode is required to obtain access to your iPhone.
