Four people, including a 15-year-old boy, are dead after their small plane crashed in Kentucky.

The Federal Aviation Administration says in a statement that a Piper PA32 crashed near Glasgow at 2:21 p.m. CT Sunday.

WSMV reported that the plane and its passengers were 'headed toward Lake Cumberland Regional Airport in Somerset, Kentucky, which is about 80 miles away from the crash site'.

KSP Post 3 spokesman Trooper Jeremy Hodges says three of the victims were pronounced deadat the scene, while the fourth person was pronounced dead at The Medical Center in Bowling Green.

The names of the victims have yet to be released, and it's not known where the crew was coming from.

Hodges described the state of the plane, saying it looks to have hit some treetops before being halted by one of the trees.

First responders had to be lowered by ropes down an earthen embankment to mark evidence for the investigation.

Glasgow is 100 miles south of Louisville, Kentucky.
