The Boston Red Sox have formally announced that Hall of Fame second baseman Bobby Doerr has passed away at the age of 99.

Doerr began his Red Sox career in 1937 at only 19 years old.

"Bobby Doerr was part of an era of baseball giants and stood out as one himself", said principal owner John Henry.

Doerr, the second baseman known as the "silent captain" on the Red Sox teams of the 1940s and early '50s, is the only member of the Hall of Fame to live to be 99 years old. "He will be missed". After he had fulfilled that desire, Doerr decided it was time to return to baseball. He compiled a.288 lifetime batting average and 223 home runs during that span while earning All-Star recognition nine times. He also scored 1,094 runs and had 1,247 RBIs.

Doerr began his Red Sox career in 1937 at only 19 years old. He would've turned 100 on April 7.

Con la victoria, Patriotas llegó a 20 puntos en 19 juegos, mientras que Junior se quedó con 35 unidades en la tercera plaza de la Liga.

"Bobby's life is one we salute not only for its longevity, but for its grace", said Red Sox chairman Tom Werner.

Doerr, along with fellow teammates Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams and Dom DiMaggio are honored with a bronze "Teammates" state outside of Fenway Park. He was named the American League MVP by The Sporting News that season.

Red Sox legend Bobby Doerr died of natural causes on November 14, 2017. Following his playing career that concluded in 1951, Doerr went back to OR to become a cattle rancher. One of the most respected players of his time, Doerr was said to have "retired with no enemies". He later tried his hand as a cattle rancher, but eventually returned to baseball as the hitting coach for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1977-81.

Doerr and his wife, Monica, who were married from 1938 until her death in 2003, had one son, Donald.
