In a left field pronouncement Oscar De La Hoya, a long since retired legend, declared that he had been training in secret and wanted one last fight against UFC star Conor McGregor of all people.

According to a source of ESPN, De La Hoya is truly considering a comeback, even if it doesn't involve McGregor. He would also have marginally more chance of success against an older fighter who has been inactive for almost a decade and lost four out of his last seven bouts.

The UFC will be keen to, at least, be seen to take some action against the Irish fighter, though not appearing on a UFC 219 card will not go far enough for many observers of mixed martial arts. UFC boss man Dana White has made it clear that the promotion wants McGregor back in the Octagon, where he hasn't competed since last November, when he won the lightweight title off of Eddie Alvarez.

"I've been secretly training, secretly training", De La Hoya said recently in an interview on Golden Boy Radio. The first thing I wanted to do was inspect him and get Mr McGregor and his crew out of the cage so that's what we did. I've been secretly training, secretly training.

Thenm you'd guide them through the appropriate final diagnosis, which would be through a blood pressure cuff and then treatment." The University of California surveyed a total of 6115 participants with an Apple Watch that used the Cardiogram app.

"I know I can take out Conor McGregor in two rounds". I'm faster than ever and stronger than ever. However, these are the same hurdles the UFC needed to work out in order for McGregor to fight Floyd Mayweather, and that got ironed out. Two rounds, that's all I need.

"If you thought Mayweather/Pacquiao was a black eye for our sport - a matchup between two of the best pound-for-pound fighters that simply didn't deliver - just wait until the best boxer of a generation dismantles someone who has never boxed competitively at any level - amateur or professional", De La Hoya wrote on Facebook.

De La Hoya also apparently conceded that McGregor would "destroy" him in the cage, which, yes, is a given. "Only in the ring", De La Hoya said. Mayweather defeated McGregor by TKO in the 10th round in a record-breaking pay-per-view.

Whether De La Hoya is serious about a ring return remains to be seen.
