Nintendo Making Animated Mario Movie With Studio Behind Minions

Nintendo is close to a deal with Illumination Entertainment for an animated movie based on the popular video game franchise, "Super Mario Bros.", CNN has confirmed. Secondly, Universal has a more than proved record in making successful animated films, which makes them a ideal fit to propel the brand into Hollywood stardom.

I wouldn't do Super Mario Brothers.

The only feature-length movie that Mario and company have fostered comes in the way of the live-action Super Mario Brothers of 1993, which many people today often try to forget ever existed.

According to the report, the companies have been in negotiations for a year and the fact Universal (which finances and distributes Illumination's movie) has partnered with Nintendo for several theme parks was helpful.

It's easy to see why Nintendo hasn't made a film in a while; most movies based on video games are bad. With this being an animated feature though this Mario movie should have a much more recognisable look to it.

The notion of a Mario movie seems like a no-brainer. Considering Mario's mutability over the years, the movie could really be about anything-a rowdy go-kart race, for instance. Illumination is probably best known for the Despicable Me franchise and its spinoff, Minions.

Regarding the Mario movie, as of press time, there is no indication that John Leguizamo will be reprising his role as Luigi.
