NCAA Grants NC State's Braxton Beverly Eligibility

Four-star freshman point guard Braxton Beverly has spent the past month in basketball purgatory, but today, the NCAA did something reasonably logical for once when it reversed its initial ruling and made Beverly immediately eligible to play for NC State.

Scott Tompsett, Beverly's attorney, released a state that said the freshman is "absolutely thrilled" by the NCAA's decision.

Originally, the NCAA ruled Beverly ineligible after transferring from Ohio State University, forcing him to sit out a year due to transfer rules.

Beverly enrolled in two summer classes at Ohio State, but four weeks later, longtime coach Matta was let go by the Buckeyes.

The two women say their Uber drivers assaulted them in two separate incidents, according to court documents. The suit accuses Uber of creating "a system for bad actors to gain access to vulnerable victims".

Beverly's initial appeal for a waiver was denied, and he had to miss NC State's opening two games. Even though the cases were unrelated, the message was clear: Paper classes were fine but going to summer classes was a cardinal sin.

Among those pleased with the NCAA's decision is Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith, the man whose decision to fire Matta unintentionally left Beverly's freshman season in jeopardy. N.C State's waiver to bypass the undergraduate transfer rule was denied the NCAA in October and the school's appeal was also denied.

It's not immediately clear what the new information was that led the NCAA to reverse course on its decision. "Braxton is ready to compete for the NC State Wolfpack!"
