Jason Aldean Initially Thought the Las Vegas Shooting Was a Blown Speaker

It's the 40-year-old singer's hope that in light of such a tragedy that everyone can have more compassion.

Aldean said he hopes the nation will be able to heal and "move on". "Some of this stuff you never get over".

"I was actually kind of getting aggravated".

"So when it first happened, I thought a speaker had blown", he said, recounting his late-night appearance last month at the outdoor Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip.

"We wear in-ear monitors when we're on stage", Aldean recalled. "And really, all you can hear is the music and maybe your guys that can talk to you on microphones that are on side-stage", Aldean shares. "It just sounded like a crackling something", the country music star told TODAY's Sheinelle Jones in an exclusive interview Tuesday. And so I'm kinda looking around like, 'What is that?' Trying to figure out what it is.

After the noise stopped, Aldean figured the problem got fixed - so he kept performing. However, after hearing the sound go longer a second time, Aldean wanted someone to take care of it. "And fix it.' And so, when I turned to look, my guitar player had run behind me and was telling me to move, like, 'Let's go.' And my security guy was running on stage telling me to run".

But Deshaun Watson should've been our quarterback. "Doesn't mean that Myles Garrett isn't going to be a great football player". Cleveland, however, opted to trade that pick to the Houston Texans , who selected Watson in the spot instead.

Of the atmosphere, Aldean described it as "pandemonium".

"It was hectic - just panic", he said. "And you just didn't know what was going on", he said. "It was just kind of insane". He also resumed his tour shortly after the incident and went back to Las Vegas to visit with those that were injured at the concert.

After canceling a series of concerts in the wake of the tragedy, Aldean continued his They Don't Know Tour on October 12 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to perform the show "that the people in Las Vegas came to see and didn't get a chance to".

"Honestly, being back on stage probably helped us more than anything", Aldean admitted during the sit-down. "We didn't have a lot of time to process it". "At the end of the day, we're all in this together".

"I feel like at the end of the day there's so much focus on, you know, politics, and race, and all these other things", the "Dirt Road Anthem" singer said. We spend so much time arguing with each other and not enough time working on the issue.
