Angola Diamond To Sell For USD30M

The flawless 163-carat clear diamond, the centrepiece of an asymmetric gem-studded necklace, was the largest of its kind ever auctioned.

The necklace, named The Art of de Grisogono, sold for $33.5m - $29.5m plus $4m premium - exceeding pre-sale predictions of $30m.

Previously, Christie's set an auction record in May 2016 with the sale of a 14.62-carat diamond known as the "Oppenheimer Blue" for $50.6m (£34.7m). The stone was the largest of its kind ever auctioned.

Originally it was part of a 404-carat rough stone, that was the largest diamond ever discovered in southwest Africa.
