USITC to investigate Apple Macs and iPhones

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) said it has voted to initiate an investigation into possible patent infringement by Apple products, including iPhones, iPads and Macs.

The commission said in a statement the probe was based on a complaint by Aqua Connect Inc and Strategic Technology Partners of Orange, California.

According to Mashable.com, the complaint hinges on Apple's AirPlay, technology that enables audio and video to be streamed wirelessly across different Apple devices.

"Nosotros estamos, como siempre, en la mejor disposición de revisar los nuevos integrantes de la Junta de Gobierno que él nos envíe", señaló Ernesto Cordero, presidente del Senado. "El consenso es una palabra que no necesariamente ayuda a la democracia".

Aqua Connect's website says its a supplier to Apple since 2007, providing remote desktop solutions. The company also alleged that several other Apple tools violated its patents, including the screen-mirroring option within AirPlay.

Aqua Connect and Strategic Technology Partners have requested that the USITC issue a temporary exclusion order and a temporary cease and desist order based on a motion for temporary relief and that the USITC ultimately issue a limited exclusion order and a cease and desist order, the USITC said.

The agency added that it will set a target date for completing the investigation within 45 days.
